hey there.
the original intentions for this website were not financial. i overheard a conversation about posting a rodriguez article, and i thought, "whoa!, what about a little site". rodriguez was a part of my youth, and every now and then i stick 'cold fact' in the player and listen to a man who spoke about the disillusionment of the city life and other urban woes, something i could, and always will be able to identify with. so add your tales my friends (the first one was sent to 'sugar' segerman when he worked for madiba music). you tell us where and what he is: the enigma, jesus rodriguez.

I came across this site (madiba music) through a e-mail friend in Aus. I am a true fan of Rodriguez, I cannot tell you what this means to me to find someone who understands his music the way I do! I have been trying to find info on him for months, I have written and contacted music pub. in the US, but all in vain. I am a newcommer to the internet and cannot believe the results I've
had the last three weeks that I have been on the net.
I would like to know every thing you know about Rodriguez, his music has had an effect on my life that I cant even begin to explain.I have found such meaning in what the words and way it is put to music.I am sure you have also taken his lyrics and ran them over and over until suddenly all those words create a meaning that gives you some sort of new understanding to what life can be all about! If you could bring me to date with the latest news, and fill me in with more sites where I could find out more about Rodriguez, I would really be greatful
Thanking you

Just had a quick read of your Rodriguez site. Weird. Having lived in the UK for nine years I'd almost forgotten the days of 'pop' festivals at Green Point Stadium and braaing on Sandy Bay or Llandudno beach with Rodriguez's Sugar Man competing gently with the sound of the Atlantic Ocean. I've spotted copies of Cold Fact on CD here in the UK, but nothing else. In fact, when I get home tonight I'll definitely get out my vinyl copy of Coming Fromn Reality and give it a spin. The fact it's a rare beast makes it all the more interesting all these years on. As for Cold Fact, truly an era-defining record for so many of us whities who grew up under apartheid's shadow. The only other thing that gets my head going in the same way is Free's Love You So off the unheralded Highway album, but for different reasons of course.

Rodriguez is my father! I'm serious. He recently received an article from a journalist there who told him of the following. I went on line to try to find out more info and was shocked to see he has his own site. Truly amazing. Do you really what to know about my father? Sometimes the fantasy is better left alive. It is as unbelievable to me as it is to you.

I heard that Rodriguez committed suicide onstage.
I was also told that he was blinded with acid by his ex wife. Is any of this
true or is it all part of the urban legend? Great music by the way....i grew up to cold facts man!

I first heard Rodriguez whilst doing border duty. Someone had a tape of Cold Fact. It was played virtually every day.

I really enjoyed his music. Just the other day teenage daughter was playing a CD version of it. I was amazed that his music was still relevant to the todays youth.

After reading the comments I thought let me listen to Rodrigues again- man no wonder he has done so well. Nice simple music great words no wonder the man is a legend in his own time. I felt I had to say my piece. How many other people remember Rodrigues from their earlier years or from recent exposures?

Pieter Sonnekus (sontek(at)iafrica.com)
This is like going back 25 years, all of a sudden remembering
the easy going years of a student in Pretoria. His music inspired and
formed my character. If Eva Alice Rodriques Koller is realy his daughter
I appeal to you to give more information and maybe just the assurance that
he is alive and well. I truly admire the man and treasure his LP Cold Fact.
Rodriques has made my journey in this life easier and more meaningful.

I can't believe I actually found a Rodriguez website! I've been looking for months and I almost thought of doing one myself (ha!). What a musician and what an album "Cold Fact" is - absolutely brilliant.

Hi Stephan, thanks for all your trouble and commitment in setting up the site and in tracing the man! The memories ... hot summer December nights in Margate ( some 25 years ago) having a wonderful time, dancing to Rodriguez. Today my 3 teenagers listen to him. Rodrigues and his music is alive and well.

My army service consisted of much sweat and Rodriguez.I had my guitar with me in "basics" and I was nicknamed Rodriguez as I constantly played his music. It made my life and all my fellow "Services School" collegues so much better and brought us closer. We all thoroughly loved the words, rhythems, and sounds and encouraged us through the thick and thin of army life.
If anyone has the music sheets to his songs,PLEASE contact me as I cannot find them anywhere.
I'm grateful that this forum was established.Well done!!
Many thanks

What a great site, in New Zealand Rodriguez
is not a houehold name but there are
people in the know who have heard of him.
Also a few record shops stock Cold Fact
and At His Best on CD.

It's good to see Rodriguez wants to tour
South Africa, it would be really cool
if he came to NZ.

Thanks

ZIMBABWE!
Rodrigues is a well respected man in Zimbabwe! Cold fact can still found in most busy music shops in Bulawayo & Harare, even if the covers are a little tatty! In fact, in some of the really 'fancy' record bars in Harare you can even get a cd copy of "after the fact", things are really coming along, Yar mooshy man, cricket, beer and Rodrguez.

It's great that Rodriguez is going to tour South Africa, but is there any chance of an Australian tour? There are lots of fans here in Brisbane who would love the opportunity to see him perform. In the meantime, it's great to see the sites that have been created about him. Lets hope there are lots more to come...

Hey Al(l)

Al - gr8 site - i gather you are responsible

Listen - Stoff and I have been thinking about this - when Uncle Sixto
comes a-callin', we musty try and corner him for a few beers.

This is amazing - just when everyone thought our king died, we find out he is alive and well and living in Detroit - if that isn't an oxymoron.

After hearing Rodriguez for the first time I instantly fell in love with his music. The cold fact is.. Rodriguez's music will NEVER die... His music is timeless. And I would give anything to see this him LIVE in concert in Australia. Any other Aussie's agree?

LONDON: - This website has intrigued me. I have been trying to research his background for years. Even the music company could'nt help me. Despite the information on these sites there remains many unanswered questions to settle the mystery and myth of Rodriguez. I have desperately been trying to contact Stephen (via stephen(at)interkom.co.za) but have received no reply. Any suggestions?
More to follow shortly......

As an American living in California, I can only say it is truly wonderful to see the few of us "who understand" sharing the wonderful, elaborate music of perhaps the most "under-appreciated" musician of his time. I'm very excited at the opportunity to share my thought on Rodriguez. His music has meant so, so much to my life !! I remember traveling once back to the States, with a copy of cold-fact in my backoack, thinking to myself " Wow. I must be the only American in the States to have a copy."
His music is great for a number of reasons, most notably- the lyrics, the poetry of it all, the blending of sound and words , it is all too wonderful to explain in mere sentences. I'm sure you all would agree. I introduced his music to some American friends and all were amazed. One day perhaps he will make a great come-back to this country.

I've heard some people call Rodriguez "depressing". How wrong they are! Rodriguez brings back good memories of school, parties, life on the border in SWA and simply feeling good. He's the best!

Oh lord!
I can't believe that I found this site!!
I am so excited !!
I have been looking for ant remnants of Cold Fact Rodriguez for years now
and living in Canada you can imagine what my success rate has been.

To better explain my plight I ask you all to see what I put up on my site.

http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/8265/zine.htm
it should explain everything .. and show how missinformed i am and show the fun of word of mouth.

anyways i would be very honored to link to this page and if possible be linked 2.

hey! lets create an irc channel for cold fact lovers ?

think about it!

I am thrilled to have found this site. Have been a fan for MANY years...the Cold Fact is that Rodrigues IS PART of my youth. His lyrics are haunting and very relevant.. even today. I always maintained that he was years before his time.. his music is timeless... my son of 19 enjoys his music, as do other youngsters. I have always wondered... WHAT HAS BECOME OF RODRIGUES? Where is he? Is he Alive? I NEED TO KNOW!!! I love COld Fact and it will always be in my collection. Viva Rodrigues! You bring back pleasant memories of youth.

true fans will correspond with me.

Is Rodriguez actually dead?
And is this concert he is having in South Africa for real?
I am ****ing confused?! I always thought he had shot himself on stage?! HELP!

wayne (waynel(at)gcl.co.za)
We now know that the stories of the suicide and any others, were falsified and Rodriguez will show his face again soon in S.A., but does anyone know where and how and why the rumour of shooting himself on stage came from? There must of been something to make people believe such a pathetic lie. Was there a stage act or anything like that?

Samantha (creview(at)ilink.nis.za)
We were driving back from Mossel Bay to Cape Town the other day – a 4hr drove at best. 35 degrees, no radio and an incredibly dull and dry countryside all the way. My boyfriend was irritable:
I was singing. He was threatening to drop me off in the middle of literally nowhere. All the songs he wanted to sing, I didn't know the words of, and vice versa.
Suddenly, somewhere, just before I ended up in Riviersonderend or something, we finally came to a unanimous agreement. The tunes of one of our favourite artists since we were kiddies had drifted in from somewhere.
Rodriguez! Suddenly we were singing happily in unison: both of us knew all the words, both of us knew all the tunes. And we arrived at our destination in excellent spirits. Go Rodriguez!!! WHAT A LIFESAVER!!!

What can I say? This is truly historic news. I feel really young at twenty writing in to tell of my euphoria when I heard that the great Rodriguez was coming to South Africa. I was having one of those terrible Joburg days in the traffic until I heard the news. I nearly went off the road.
Rodriguez you are a man amongst men, I can't wait to see you and Eva in South Africa! Styling

Well, i see all things ARE possible (Elvis A Presley - e-mail me!)... Rodrigues has always been something of an enigma. I have been missing him for 20 years now! Isn't it strange, for a few months now he's been more on my mind than usual... call it intuition... or ESP!! I have been desperate to know WHERE he is and WHAT he's doing. Now, out of the blue, he is touring SA.... fantastic! Is this a miracle, or what! I was totally Gobsmacked when i heard. Disbelieving at first. Sorry Eva. I have bought my ticket, and my 19 y.o. son is coming along as well. Eva, please don't forget the T-SHIRTS..!!! i WANT to be able to go home with my very own " Rodriguez, Cold Fact, He is Alive - I was there" T-shirt... Don't disappoint us!! And Brian, you are doing a great job..keep up the good work, keep us informed.
